Brenda
D. Gundersen is a project manager with the New Brighton
office of Cottrill, Arbutina Professional Services.
As
a former in-house finance officer with The Watson
Institute and Mellon Bank, and with Big Four experience,
Ms. Gundersen understands the need to serve clients
with the highest quality of information, analysis
and focus on service.
She
is a member of the firm's Audit Group which provides
audit and management consulting to a variety of governmental,
not-for-profit and financial institutions, as well
as privately held businesses. Clients include a number
of the top credit unions in the Pittsburgh region
as ranked by asset size in the Pittsburgh Business
Times, as well as more than two-thirds of the public
school districts in Beaver County.
Before
joining Cottrill, Arbutina, Ms. Gundersen was an auditor
and tax accountant with a firm in Zelienople, PA.
In this role, she provided audit services to not-for-profit
organizations, and she prepared financial statements
and corporate and partnership tax returns.
From
1998 to 2000, Ms. Gundersen was director of accounting
for The Watson Institute, comprising D.T. Watson Educational
Services and D.T. Watson Rehabilitation Hospital,
one of Western Pennsylvania's most prestigious healthcare
providers, which became part of HealthSouth Corporation.
In managing the day-to-day operations of the finance
department, she prepared financial statements and
budgets, prepared tax filings, supervised payroll
and treasury functions, and coordinated all regulatory
filings. She joined the Institute in 1992 and was
business manager for five years.
Ms.
Gundersen served as an officer with Mellon Bank's
Trust and Investment Department from 1986 to 1989
as a member of the Planning and Controller's Division.
She prepared monthly financials, forecasts, variance
analysis and budgets.
Earlier,
she was a senior accountant with Coopers & Lybrand,
now part of the Big Four firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Her responsibilities included planning, administering
and directing audit engagements, as well as training
and supervising staff. She received her CPA certification
in Pennsylvania in 1985.
Ms. Gundersen received her bachelor of arts
degree in economics in 1983 from Washington and Jefferson
College.
